SEPSIS
The Foundation's activities in the area of multiple sclerosis began with the diagnosis of MS, which Urszula Jaworska's daughter - Aleksandra Baranowska received in 2011. It was her experiences, problems with obtaining reliable knowledge and support after receiving the diagnosis that initiated a series of workshops for patients, which were conducted throughout the country for 3 years. In 2015 , we published an educational calendar with actors and athletes dedicated to education on the subject of multiple sclerosis and educated during the Festival of Stars in Międzyzdroje.
The Foundation's long-term project in this area was to initiate and work towards the creation of coordinated care ( KOSM ). Together with many experts, we participated in work on changes to the standard of care for patients with multiple sclerosis, we initiated public consultations addressed to patients, medics and people managing medical facilities. As a result of this work , KOSM was created - Coordinated Care in Multiple Sclerosis , which was directed for implementation by the Order of the President of the National Health Fund No. 93/2019/DSOZ of July 16, 2019 .

We have been dealing with sepsis-related issues in our Foundation for a long time. Considering the increasingly worrying data on sepsis, the huge discrepancies in reporting and the lack of a nationwide medical sepsis registry, we decided, in cooperation with Dr. Konstanty Szułdrzyński, to begin activities aimed at changing the method of prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for patients with sepsis.
Due to the fact that the topic of sepsis is still shrouded in many myths, many of our planned activities will focus on the area of education of patients, caregivers and medical staff. We have also planned a nationwide social campaign that will reach the general public through extensive activities in the media, press, radio and TV.
I encourage you to support our activities, because thanks to our almost 30 years of activity in the area of education and patient-friendly systemic changes, we are convinced that the problem of sepsis will not be solved by only one-way actions, e.g. the purchase of diagnostic equipment.
Urszula Jaworska - President of the Management Board of the Foundation
We “met” sepsis 24 years ago. Why the plural? Because this disease affected my husband.
But we got through it together, the whole family. A young, basically healthy man, without any multi-morbidities or chronic conditions, suddenly got sick... We ended up in hospital, and 3 days later I heard the word "sepsis" for the first time in my life, and shortly after that "septic shock". At that time I didn't know what we were dealing with, but my subconscious told me that it was bad... And it was worse than I thought...
Sepsis is a syndrome of multiple organ failure caused by a systemic infection of the body. There can be many sources of infection. To this day, this disease state is diagnosed so late that, according to unofficial statistics, half of the patients die.
For almost a quarter of a century, nothing has changed in the diagnosis and treatment of sepsis - at the moment of diagnosis, the patient is already in the intensive care unit, and there a real life-and-death struggle takes place. Why are we sharing our emotions from 24 years ago? Because we know how many emotions, fear, uncertainty, suddenness of symptoms, late effects of the disease are contained in this short word " SEPSIS".
Is it possible to protect yourself from sepsis? I don't know. But until we know the quantifiable scale of this problem, we won't know how to solve it, how to counteract it, how to protect ourselves and our loved ones from getting sick, sepsis will be lurking and can attack anyone.
Our story shows that anyone can get sick, at any time and at any stage of life.
But it also shows that you can beat sepsis.
