HOW TO BECOME A DONOR

To become a bone marrow donor in Poland, you must meet several conditions and go through the registration process.

 

Here are the steps to take:

 

• Registering with one of the Bone Marrow Donor Centres – list available at www.szpik.info or ordering a registration package: You can order a free registration package online at the DKMS website www.dkms.pl

• Complete the form and health questionnaire and provide a blood sample for HLA analysis (Human Lymphoma Antigens) if you are registered with DKMS. Once you receive your package, complete the attached form and take a swab from the inside of your cheek, then send everything back to the address provided in your registration package.

• After registration, if your HLA match is with the patient, you will be asked for a repeat blood draw and/or HLA typing.

• In case of full compliance, preparation for the bone marrow collection procedure begins, this is called qualification: During one visit to a center authorized to perform tests, you will be qualified as a bone marrow donor.
