SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

Main assumptions of the sustainable development strategy:

A sustainable development strategy is a long-term approach that aims to harmoniously combine social, economic and environmental goals to meet the needs of current generations without compromising the opportunities of future generations. Its main objective is to balance economic development, environmental protection and social well-being.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals, was adopted by all 193 UN member states by a General Assembly Resolution on 25 September 2015 in New York.

The implementation of goals and tasks is monitored worldwide with appropriate indicators. They were adopted by Resolution of the General Assembly on 10 July 2017. The Central Statistical Office is responsible for their monitoring in Poland.

Most of our activities are part of this main goal. Starting with the creation of the Bone Marrow Donor Bank, which was the beginning of the Foundation's existence, to today's programs related to bone marrow donation, health education, healthy lifestyle prevention, combating infectious diseases and access to clinical trials.

Our activities to implement the goals of the 2030 Agenda include:

  • Organizing educational campaigns promoting a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention. – The Foundation has implemented several social campaigns on topics as important as bone marrow and organ donation, health prevention, e.g. blood counts, HCV infection, diabetes and obesity prevention, and access to medical services for people with disabilities (campaigns on multiple sclerosis) and people requiring long-term care.

  • Providing access to basic medical care in excluded regions and areas. – The Foundation runs a program for diagnosing viral hepatitis C and treating uninsured people in prisons

  • Implementation of vaccination programs and screening tests for chronic diseases. - Over the years, we have conducted numerous activities related to screening tests related to chronic diseases (blood cancers, organ transplantation, HCV, diabetes)

  • Activities to improve mental health, e.g. running support groups or helplines. The workshops and support groups run by the Foundation always present a multidisciplinary approach to the patient, in addition to medical experts we ensure the presence of psychologists and psychological support for patients and their families. During classes for patients and their families, the knowledge provided was supplemented with legal support and experts from ZUS. The Foundation also participated in a several-year patient support program on the Patient Rights Advocate's hotline as part of the "Łączy nas Pacjent" project.

  • Actions for equal access to healthcare, especially for people from marginalized groups, such as migrants, people with disabilities or ethnic minorities. Our activities in the area of this goal are very intensive. They focus primarily on providing diagnostics and treatment for people in prisons. Improving access to healthcare services for people with disabilities and people in long-term care.

  • During the Covid 19 pandemic, we ran a support point for residents of the Praga Południe district. Our educational materials during the pandemic and the war were available in Ukrainian. In all of its activities, the Foundation always puts human rights at the forefront and adheres to the principles of counteracting inequalities.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a concept that assumes that companies should operate not only with a view to maximizing profits, but also in a responsible manner towards society, the environment and stakeholders. It is an approach closely linked to the principles of sustainable development, which takes into account three key aspects: economic, social and environmental.

Benefits for companies:

Building a positive image
and customer trust.

Increase employee loyalty and improve their engagement

Attracting investors interested in sustainable development

Minimizing regulatory and legal risk

CSR in line with the principles of sustainable development is not just a trend, but a long-term strategy that allows companies to create value not only for themselves, but also for the environment in which they operate.

Business cooperation with organizations operating in the area of health, in accordance with the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development, should be based on partnerships, common goals and activities that bring benefits to communities.

Here's what such cooperation can look like:

1. DEFINING COMMON GOALS

Businesses and health organizations should define common priorities, such as:

  • Promoting a healthy lifestyle.

  • Increasing access to medical services and health prevention.

  • Public education in the field of public health, e.g. prevention of lifestyle diseases.

2. FINANCING HEALTH PROGRAMS

Companies can support healthcare organizations by:

  • Granting funds for healthcare campaigns (e.g., those related to combating obesity, diabetes, cancer, or supporting people who are excluded or have disabilities).

  • Funding research into new therapies or medical technologies.

  • Organizing scholarship programs for young doctors or scientists.

3. CREATING PREVENTIVE AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Businesses can work with health organizations to organize:

  • Training and workshops for employees and local communities.

  • Social campaigns to raise awareness of issues such as mental health, vaccinations, and healthy eating.

  • Prevention programs in schools and workplaces, such as free screening tests.

4. TECHNOLOGICAL AND LOGISTICAL SUPPORT

Businesses can work with health organizations to organize:

  • Training and workshops for employees and local communities.

  • Social campaigns to raise awareness of issues such as mental health, vaccinations, and healthy eating.

  • Prevention programs in schools and workplaces, such as free screening tests.

5. PROMOTING HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE

Companies can act as role models for a responsible approach to health by implementing:

  • Employee mental health support programs.

  • Organizing health days with medical experts.

  • Creating policies that promote physical activity and healthy eating among employees.

6. ACTIVITIES FOR LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Joint initiatives aimed at the community, such as:

  • Construction or modernization of health facilities.

  • Financing mobile medical points in hard-to-reach regions.

  • Organization of blood donation campaigns or registration of potential bone marrow donors.

7. TRANSPARENCY AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Regular reporting of the results of the collaboration (e.g. number of beneficiaries, achieved goals).

  • Establishing success measures that include the impact on public health.

  • Consulting with local communities and organizations to better respond to their needs.

Practical examples:

  • A pharmaceutical company collaborating with a non-governmental organization can implement a program of access to medicines for people in a difficult economic situation.

  • A tech corporation could support health foundations by creating apps that promote mental health.

  • A manufacturing company can finance educational campaigns on the impact of employee health on work efficiency.

Thanks to this approach, business cooperation with health organizations contributes to building a healthier society and increases the positive impact of the company on its environment.
